LAUNCH OF “LABEL” MAGAZINE

Riccardo Boero, editor, will introduce LABEL a bilingual quarterly that comes alongside magazines such as The Face, Wallpaper*, Dazed&Confused and offers a uniquely Italian perspective. It deals in surreal trend-setting and real info-shaping suggesting visions that are both precise and casual about art, architecture, technology, music, fashion and ideas.

URBAN LANDSCAPE, EARLY MORNING, IN AUTUMN AN EXHIBITION BY ANNIE RATTI

A selection of recent works of the past two years by the Italian artist based in London. Her research – consisting of installations, objects and photographical works - focuses on the anthropological reading of art and the creation of metaphorical spaces.

THE CINEMA OF MIKLOS JANCSO

The largest retrospective ever held in the UK of Hungary's great director.His collaborator and scriptwriter on several films, the Italian director Giovanna Gagliardo introduces 'Private Vices, Public Virtues' [19 February] and partecipates in a conference on Jancso's work [20 February].

SUPERSTUDIO - LIFE WITHOUT OBJECTS

Renowned in architecture and design circles during the late 1960s and 1970s, the avant-garde Italian group Superstudio is equally influential today. By championing 'anti-design' as an alternative to arid modernism, Superstudio became a forerunner to later avant-garde groups from Studio Alchymia to Memphis. Event supported by ICI

X ITALIAN FILM FESTIVAL

The Italian Film Festival successfully celebrates its 10th anniversary, presenting the latest Italian film productions. Special guest: Lina Wertmuller, the first female director to have received an Oscar nomination, who will present a retrospective of her films. Organised in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of Edinburgh, with the support of Cinecitta' Holding, Italia Cinema, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Cineteca di Bologna, the Italian Consulate in Manchester and the Italian Bookshop. MADE IN ITALY ITALIAN COOL IS BACK IN FASHION

Awards presentation to the winners of the 3rd FAD Graduate Fashion Competition. THE UGLY DUCKLING

The innovative Italian theatre company Teatro di Piazza o d'Occasione (TPO) will present this classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen in a new production primarily aimed at children between the ages of three to six. Over the same period, TPO will stage LAB CLIC, a series of two-hour long participatory workshops, in the studio space. Performed in English. Event supported by ICI

On the occasion of the screening of 'The Leopard', part of the Luchino Visconti retrospective, an evening dedicated to the novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. Italian author Enzo Siciliano will introduce a debate with prominent British writers, followed by actor Colin Firth who will read selections from his favourite book. SERENA NONO AND HANIF KUREISHI: IN THIS ROOM

An installation created jointly for the Italian Cultural Institute by the Venetian artist Serena Nono and writer Hanif Kureishi, drawing inspiration from his short story, 'Nightlight'. Plus 'When The Night Begins' (2002, 33 mins), a film by Elisabetta Sgarbi, based on a new three-act play by Hanif Kureishi, with Anna Bonaiuto.

Since winning a Golden Lion award at the 48th Venice Biennale in 1999, Monica Bonvicini has emerged as one of the most exciting young artists working internationally. GINO DE DOMINICIS

On the occasion of the Italian Presidency of the European Union, the Italian Cultural Institute is proud to present an anthology portraying one of the masters of contemporary Italian art, who died in 1998. Curated by Sauro Bocchi with the supervision of Achille Bonito Oliva, the exhibition represents an extraordinary event introducing De Dominicis for the first time in the UK. The catalogue of the exhibition is the first complete printed collection of his works ever published (the artist always rejected photography as a means of reproduction of works of art). After the successful events of the past years, for the third time a season of Italian short films by well-known and emerging directors. This year shorts@soho.it will open with 'Nostra Signora Dei Turchi' (Our Lady Of The Turks),1968, 124 mins, by Carmelo Bene, the acclaimed Italian actor and director who died last year. Influential in avant-garde film-making techniques, he made films between 1968 and 1973 that marked him as the wildest genius of Italian cinema. In collaboration with Curzon Cinemas.
