SALVATOR ROSA: WILD LANDSCAPES PRIVATE VIEW - MEMBERS ONLY

Salvator Rosa (1615 - 73) was one of the most famous Italian landscape painters of the seventeenth century. Many of his works have a mysterious, often violent character. They seem to reflect something of his character which was said to be combative and melancholy. Indeed, in addition to being a painter he was also a musician, an actor and a poet. His artistic influence was widespread and profound, influencing landscape developments in Italy and England (where he had an enormous reputation in the eighteenth-century).
