FRIDAY 6 - SATURDAY 28 JANUARY AEQUILIBRIUM Project by Fulvio Rubesa The exhibition Aequilibrium comprises a series of cyanotype photographic prints. It is a group of photographs with dancers, whose aim is engaging the viewer with the concept of balance. THURDAY 12 JANUARY, 6.30pm PITTURA 70. THEN AND NOW Following the Institute's recent exhibitions of movements such as Arte Povera and Transavanguardia, this exhibition explores various aspects of the art movement known as Analytic Painting, proposing a return to painting with regard to its basic and primary elements: canvas, form, base, surface, colour... THURSDAY 19 JANUARY, 6.30pm ITALVILLE - ITALIAN CONTEMPORARY PROSE & POETRY Launch of the new anthology of contemporary Italian prose and poetry translated into English, published by the Italian Cultural Institute in Chicago with the support of other Italian Cultural Institutes in English-speaking countries. The volume will be presented by writer Edoardo Albinati, author of Coming Back and amanda Hopkinson, Director of the British Centre for Literary Translation. VENUE: ICI |

FRIDAY 20 & SATURDAY 21 JANUARY NARRATIVE SYNERGIES: CINEMA AND LITERATURE IN CONTEMPORARY ITALY The conference aims to provide a forum for discussion on the reciprocal influence between literary and cinematic works by contemporary Italian authors. The recent success of Italian films based on contemporary novels raises questions of a potential synergy between literary and film narratives. An important point for discussion will be whether the identity and legitimacy of literary works have been affected by the ascendancy of visual forms of story-telling. INVENTING THE FUTURE - JOE COLOMBO As notorious for his decadent lifestyle as he was acclaimed for his design innovations, Joe Colombo dominated the European design Avant-garde in the 1960s. An ebullient futurist, he believed that the designer was 'the creator of the environment of the future'. Exceptionally prolific and tirelessly inventive, Colombo imbued product and furniture design with the dynamism and playfulness of 1960s pop culture. THURSDAY 26 JANUARY , 1.15pm LUNCHTIME PIANO CONCERT - MARIANGELA VACATELLO Mariangela Vacatello started her career as a child prodigy. She graduated with honors from the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan in 1999 and has won many honors throughout her short career, such as the international Franz Liszt Contest in Holland, the XVIII Venice Award 2000. She has been one of the finalist at the 2004 Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition and in 2005 has participated in the Chopin Festival in Paris. She is currently furthering her musical education at the Accademia Pianistica in Imola. Her repertoire includes Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Liszt, Schumann and Stravinsky. VENUE: ICI |
